Donald,
Sorry to rush off without sayin’ goodbye, but there’s big trouble brewin’.
Not sure why, but the stars have been blinkin’ out, one by one. And that means disaster can’t be far behind.
I hate to leave you all but I’ve gotta go check into it. There’s someone with a "key"—the key to our survival.
So I need you and Goofy to find him, and stick with him. Got it? We need that key or we’re doomed! So go to Traverse Town and find Leon.
He’ll point you in the right direction...
P.S.
Would ya apologize to Minnie for me? Thanks, pal.
Those words were read and re-read by the Court Wizard, Magus Donald. The letter was brief, and urgent. Nothing would make the King rush off like that, that means that something serious must be going down... Stars vanishing from the sky? This was unlike anything ever seen before.
And this 'someone' with the "key"... They seemed to be important, if the King needed his two elite guards to find them...
"Oh, dear! What could this mean?" Lady Daisy asks with anxiety. "It means we’ll just have to trust the king." Queen Minnie replies resolutely, she clearly had confidence in the King.
"Gawrsh, I sure hope he’s all right." Goofy grumbles. "Your Highness. Don’t worry. We’ll find the king and this 'key.'" Donald pipes up nobly.
"...And to chronicle your journeys, he will be assisting you." Queen Minnie continued. And a small figure jumps up on to the writing desk, and jumps for attention. "Hey! Over here!" It bows and tips it's hat. "Cricket's the name! Jiminy Cricket, at your service!"
As Goofy and Donald decended the staircase to the Gummi Hangar, they were revising contact protocols. "Goofy?" Donald prompted warily.
"Oh, right, I gotcha." Goofy chuckled back, "While we’re in the other worlds, we can’t let on where we’re from. We’ve gotta protect the world border." "ORDER!" Donald squawked angrily.
They entered the Hangar. "Donald Duck to Launch Crew!" Donald called up the tannoy horn. "We're ready!" They boarded the Gummi ship, where Queen Minnie and Lady Daisy waved them off. "Be careful, and come back soon!" Minnie called anxiously. Donald and Goofy saluted back, and the engines flare into life. The ship suddenly falls out into interspace and blasts away to Traverse Town!
Meanwhile, already in Traverse Town, the Keybearer was already waking up in the Accessory back alley, to be greeted by... a dog? Pluto, impatient with the child's recovery, jumps and stamps him in the chest, waking him with a start.
"What a dream... Oof! This isn’t a dream!" He groans. "Where am I? Oh, boy. Do you know where we are?" Sora asks the dog, who promptly dashes.
Obviously distraught, Sora staggers out in persuit of the dog, who had fled. He enters the accessory shop, and returns a moment later, crestfallen... He starts looking around town. In the Second District, he watches a fleeing man fall down. His Heart floats upward and is instantly seized by a dark creature. More appeared and surrounded Sora. 'It’s those creatures from the island!' Sora ponders critically, as the Key appears in his hand again. Sora dispatches the creatures easily and resumes his search. After returning to the First District and informing the clerk, Sora second-guesses his reality, just as...
"They’ll come at you out of nowhere." Sora turns around and begins to ask, but the stranger carries on. "And they’ll keep on coming at you, as long as you continue to wield the Keyblade. But why? Why would it choose a kid like you?" This upsets Sora. "Hey! What's that supposed to mean?!".
"Never mind. Now, let me see that Keyblade." The stranger demands, stepping forward. Sora reveals his weapon, but instead of handing it over, wields it. "What?! There’s no way you’re getting this!". The stranger lifts up a lethal looking sword, with the barrel of a handgun in the hilt. "All right, then have it your way."
Sora puts a valiant fight, but ultimately fails. "Now... you're... gonna... you're gonna..." 'thwumph!' he collapses backward in a dead faint. Another voice, a female voice, calls out. "Aw, you’re slipping, Leon!" It was a playful voice.
"I went easy on him." the stranger responded, then looks at Sora. "...Looks like things are worse than we thought. A lot worse."
The worlds have come together. They were once seperated by their individual Fourth Walls, but the uprising of darkness had shattered them, sending meteorites hurtling to nearby worlds.
Darkness, an unknown power, has once again been consuming, eating away at everything as we know it. People have been disappearing. Stars have been disappearing. It's getting to the 'lock-your-shutters-and-recluse-from-society' stage of mass panic. People stay tuned to the news to listen to reports of loved ones having vanished, there have been no reports of death, but many missing-persons reports. There is an international feeling of anxiety and terror. Some doomsdayer riots have even broken out.
And this darkness isn't random either. The swarms of evil are looking for something, nobody knows what. Well... One man knew, but he went missing long ago, but some say he was swallowed by the very darkness he was studying.
Nobody knows how to stop the darkness.
Many thousands of worlds have been layed waste, many millions of lives have been destroyed, and they just keep on coming.
Everyone's waiting with bated breath, afraid that they, or their friends will be taken.
There's talk of a hero; one who will protect us, and save us. But not even the shining sword of a hero may defeat the onslaught.
The Door is about to open. This next era will shred us...
The Light is fading; a flickering candle in the unfathomable abyss.
Don't lose your Light. Keep it, protect it, keep it strong. But know this - the closer you get to the Light, the greater your Shadow becomes. And remember, you will be the one to open the Door...
