The year is 2000, with beings that have come out of hiding. These beings possess mutations of a genetic nature. During puberty, through traumatic occurrences or even from birth it shows in varying degrees of power. Telekinesis, matter manipulation, and even transmogrification are only a few examples of this amazing gift. To them it is a blessing...at the same time as a curse. Humans, on the other hand, have a major disdain for the beings they have come to call mutants. Even these "mutants" themselves have come to call themselves by this name, which was originally meant as an insult. However not all mutants agree with this prospect of humans being treated better than they.
Not all of the human race was to be doubted, however. Minds of a governmental scientist group created a serum in the early winter of 1998, and it was said to be the 'Cure' for mutation. It was an anti-body and was created to permanently suppress the mutant 'X' gene. It was the silver lining between being a mutant and being a human. To some mutants, the Cure was a Godsend, allowing them to live in the world like any other person, without the watchful human breathing down their neck. Others, however, did not like the idea of the Cure - not at all. More joined this viewpoint when the government decided to use it to their advantage, raiding areas of high mutant population and using darts full of the serum against the will of the victims. But of course, the media showed no evidence of these acts. Those who cried out the government's unconstitutional acts were ignored and believed to be insane, or even secretly incarcerated.
Thousands of mutants around the world choose to hide their mutation, whether it is by continuing their normal lives or even remaining secluded in the cases of some rather unfortunate mutants whose mutations extended beyond mental. These outsiders, whom have so deemed themselves, have found their way into a new resistance, a way to survive without direct contact with the humans themselves. Under a strong leader, this brotherhood has found sanctuary in a place where they can live and interact as they were meant to do.
Issues between the mutants and the humans has led to the government stepping in, creating an extensive database of many mutants within the United States, starting with criminals and former criminals. Family oriented mutants, or those that have children of their own are still listed but are not paid as much attention to. Only the more powerful and the more dangerous are considered for this kind of scrutiny. Because of the discrimination that every mutant receives, the Brotherhood, as they call themselves, have taken it upon themselves to ensure that all of mutant-kind will be regarded as the dominant species of the planet.
The X-Men, once a group dedicated to good and just, have been long disbanded by the United States government, deemed a threat almost as much as the rogue mutants were. Professor Xavier, Scott Summers and Jean Grey were recently apprehended and imprisoned, their powers inhibited by the special rooms that were created for the sole purpose of holding mutants as powerful as they are. Since the X-Men no longer exist, the government eventually gave permission for the demolition of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in 1995. Now it lay in ruins, destroyed and left to rot in the middle of the forest that surrounds it. With the X-Men gone, the Brotherhood is able to rise up and fulfill the wishes of its leader, Magneto, whom has finally brought a plan to fruition that will lead them to ruling the world.
The only question is, will there be someone, anyone, that can save the world from these evil mutants?
